También es el idioma oficial en países como la India, lo cual es muy llamativo si tenemos en cuenta que en Asia no hay ningún otro territorio que lo tenga como idioma central. Esto se debe a la presencia inglesa en la India y en la difusión que el idioma tuvo aún luego del retiro de la presencia inglesa en la región.
